The Rubicon
The Rubicon is a remote, very difficult on- and off-trail foot race held at Oxbow Reservoir, CA, in the northwestern Sierra Nevada. The event is organized by Skybreaker Racing and takes place in backcountry terrain.
This is not an official race. The event is described as a fatass, a group run without course markings, aid stations, staff, or a medical team. Participants should expect self-supported travel and route-finding in remote terrain.
Route options include:
- The Requisite: 15+ miles, ≈6,700 ft gain, 3 hill climbs, 2 water crossings
- The Resonant: 30+ miles, ≈12,700 ft gain, 6 hill climbs, 6 water crossings
- The Revenant: 43+ miles, ≈19,300 ft gain, 8 hill climbs, 8 water crossings
Completion requirements are sequential: finishing The Requisite is required before attempting The Resonant, and finishing The Resonant is required before attempting The Revenant.
Scheduling follows a specific rule: when October has five Saturdays the event falls on the fourth Saturday; when October has four Saturdays it moves to the first Saturday to avoid conflict with another event. Registration closes on Thu, Oct 22 at 11:59 PM PT. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
