The Rubicon

The Rubicon

The Rubicon is a remote on and off trail foot race in the backcountry of the northwestern Sierra Nevada, near Oxbow Reservoir, CA and Blacksmith Flat Spur (FS Rd 23-002). The event date is Saturday, Oct 24, 2026. The course runs across rough terrain and includes multiple water crossings.

This is not an official event. Organizers describe it as a fatass, a glorified group run. There will be no course markings, no aid stations, no staff, and no medical team. The undertaking is presented as very difficult and should be treated as a self-supported backcountry endeavor.

Route options include:

• The Requisite: 15+ miles, ≈6,700 ft gain, 3 hill climbs, 2 water crossings
• The Resonant: 30+ miles, ≈12,700 ft gain, 6 hill climbs, 6 water crossings
• The Revenant: 43+ miles, ≈19,300 ft gain, 8 hill climbs, 8 water crossings

Completion requirements are specified: completion of The Requisite is required before attempting The Resonant in the future, and completion of The Resonant is required before attempting The Revenant in the future.
