The Rubicon
The Rubicon is a very difficult and remote on and off-trail foot race in the backcountry of the northwestern Sierra Nevada near Oxbow Reservoir, California. The route runs through rugged terrain and includes multiple hill climbs and water crossings. The event is informal and organized as a fatass group run rather than an official race.
There are no course markings, no aid stations, no event staff, and no medical team. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient on the route. The location references Blacksmith Flat Spur (Forest Service Road 23-002) near Oxbow Reservoir.
Route options are listed below:
- The Requisite: 15+ miles, ≈6,700 ft of gain, 3 hill climbs, and 2 water crossings
- The Resonant: 30+ miles, ≈12,700 ft of gain, 6 hill climbs, and 6 water crossings
- The Revenant: 43+ miles, ≈19,300 ft of gain, 8 hill climbs, and 8 water crossings
