The Legacy
The Legacy is a trail running event scheduled for January 9, 2027 in Sapphire, North Carolina, organized by Dirty Wolf Ultras and based at Gorges State Park near 976 Grassy Ridge Road. The event offers the following distances:
- 50K
- 25K
The course uses trail sections described as a 16-mile route and may be adjusted in wet conditions to a 7-mile out-and-back of the first seven miles. Packet pickup is available the day before the race. Trekking poles are permitted and runners are advised to be prepared for variable weather including rain and fog.
An aid station will be staffed and stocked with basic food items such as pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, bacon, and with hydration options including water, Tailwind, and various sodas; first aid supplies will be available. Bibs must be worn visibly on the front. The event has a 12-hour cutoff and medals are handmade and unique to each finisher.
The event is private so unregistered participants are not allowed. Entry fees are non-refundable; deferral requests are handled by the race director. Results will be posted on UltraSignup and race photos are expected to be available about one week after the event. Proceeds are designated for brain deterioration and learning disabilities research.
