The Devil's Gorge
The Devil's Gorge is a trail event at Gorges State Park near Sapphire, NC, organized by Dirty Wolf Ultras. The event lists two distances:
- 50K
- 25K
The main route is described as roughly 30 to 31 miles for a full loop, with technical terrain that includes exposed roots, rock gardens, steep grades, and significant elevation changes. The course is flagged with red ribbon and red arrows. In wet weather the course may be altered to a 15 mile out and back.
An aid station will offer basic food items such as pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, and bacon, plus hydration options including water, Tailwind, and assorted sodas. First aid will be available at the aid station. Trekking poles are allowed and the organizer recommends bringing them. Bibs must be worn visibly on the front during the race.
Finishers receive medals. The race uses a 10 hour cutoff and allows runners and walkers who can finish within the time limit. Entry fees are non refundable, including in cases of cancellation or inclement weather, though deferrals may be arranged through the race director. The event is private and unregistered participants are not permitted. A portion of proceeds goes to research on brain deterioration and learning disabilities.
