The Ridgeway Chase
The Ridgeway Chase is a 60 km point to point ultramarathon that follows the first section of The Ridgeway National Trail. The route starts at Ivinghoe Beacon in Hertfordshire and finishes at Ridgeway View Campsite near Wallingford, crossing Chiltern and North Wessex Downs terrain with ridgeline views and woodland trails. The course has around 1000 m of elevation gain and a 10 hour time limit.
For 2027 the route will be fully marked with orange arrow markers and ribbons. Permanent Ridgeway signage is also used and open tracking is provided. There are four aid stations located at Wendover Church (about 17.6 km), Whiteleaf (about 27.9 km), Aston Rowant (about 41.1 km) and Nuffield (about 54.8 km). Aid stations supply water, electrolyte drink, gels and chews, snacks, pre‑made sandwiches, fresh fruit and hot water at CP3.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Field size is limited to 150 runners and the minimum entry age is 20. Pre-race coach transfers to the start are available from the finish base, where free parking and spectator parking are provided. Camping is available at the finish site via the campsite operator.
Runners must carry required kit for the full event including a fully charged mobile phone, route access via GPX or paper map, at least 1 litre of water capacity, a foil blanket or survival bag, a reusable soft cup, nutrition and payment method.
