Reservoir Run - Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Fun Runs & Family Stroll
The Weston Kiwanis 15th Annual Reservoir Run takes place at Weston High School in Weston, Connecticut. The event program includes a half marathon, a 5K race, and kids fun runs paired with a family stroll on the school grounds.
The half marathon covers 13.1 Miles and includes a long uphill around mile 12; other sections are described as flat, rolling, scenic and fast. Overall male and female champions (top three) win awards. Age-group awards are given three deep in 10-year groups for runners age 14 and older.
The 5K course runs around central Weston, follows only right-hand turns, includes a few hills and features a long flat middle mile. Overall male and female champions (top three) win awards for the 5K as well.
Kids Fun Runs and the Family Stroll are held on the school grounds and track adjacent to the other courses. Organizers state that participant safety is a priority, distances for young runners vary by age and by total numbers, and these activities are non-competitive and intended for families.
Proceeds from the half marathon benefit the Child & Family Guidance Center and the Kiwanis Club of Weston Foundation. Proceeds from the 5K benefit the Weston High School Boosters Club, which supports activities touching ~80% of students.
