Red Tulip Run - Danville
The Red Tulip Run is a community 10K held on the Iron Horse Regional Trail in Danville, California. The course is an out-and-back route of 10K (6.2 miles): participants run 3.1 miles out, turn around at the marked point, and return to the same start and finish location at 655 Old Orchard Drive. The trail is flat, paved, and shaded in spots.
The event is organized by a high school runner in memory of his grandad and honors people living with Parkinson's and those affected by the disease. Registration is set at $35 and each finisher receives a red tulip, the worldwide symbol of Parkinson's awareness. Every dollar over cost from registration and donations is donated to the Danville d’Elegance Foundation to support Parkinson's research and patient care.
The race notes that the foundation is volunteer run and has raised over $9 million since 2004. The event page also describes options for sponsoring a runner, sponsoring race items such as water or shirts, and volunteering for course marshals or check-in duties. The course stays open to the public, so participants are asked to keep to the right to share the trail with walkers and cyclists. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
