Event Dates and Format
The Washington Island Ultra takes place from July 23 to July 25, 2026. The event features four race formats:
- 36 Hour Solo
- 36 Hour Team
- 24 Hour Solo
- 24 Hour Team
Location and Setting
The race is located on Washington Island, Wisconsin. Access is via a 30-minute car ferry crossing the Death's Door Passage. The setting is described as peaceful and quiet, with smooth roads, clear water, and starry skies. Waterside camping is available.
Event History and Details
The first event was held in 2016 with 25 participants. It now hosts 150 athletes annually in July. The organizers provide homemade breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all athletes, along with fresh coffee and tea. Fresh brick oven pizza from the local pizzeria, Island Pizza, is also offered.
Registration Process
Registration is managed via a waitlist. Links are emailed to waitlisted participants and those who raced in the previous two years on August 1. The race typically sells out within 24 to 48 hours of registration opening. Interested participants must join the waitlist by email to receive a registration link.
