The Rat Race 50k and Trail Series
The Rat Race 50k is part of a trail race series held at Wells Mills Park in Waretown, New Jersey on March 20, 2027. The 50k course is 100% off road and is composed of one large 8-mile loop followed by three 10k loops around Wells Mills Pond. The event includes water stops, mile markers, food, available t-shirts, medals for all finishers and chip timing. Awards are presented to the top five finishers in 10-year age groups. There is no set cutoff time, but runners must finish before the park closes.
Distances in the series include:
- 50k - one 8-mile loop then three 10k loops around Wells Mills Pond
- 20k - two loops around Wells Mills Pond
- 10k - one loop around Wells Mills Pond
- 5-mile
- 4-mile
- 5k
Other Rat Race events listed include a 5k Rat Challenge in Toms River (June 2026) on woodland trail with occasional ankle-deep water, handheld timing, small awards and event giveaways; the Scary Rat Race on October 11, 2026 at Spring Meadow Golf Course in Allaire State Park, Howell, NJ, a 4-mile off-road run with handheld timing and finisher gifts; and a Rat Race Holiday Hash on December 12, 2026 that includes a run through the woods with beer in hand.
