The Spring Rat Races take place at Wells Mills Park in Waretown, New Jersey on March 20, 2027. The 50k is 100% off road and uses one large eight mile loop followed by three 10k loops around Wells Mills Pond. The event provides water stops, mile markers, food, t-shirts for sale, medals for all finishers, and chip timing. Awards are given to the top three in five year age groups. There is no cut off time but runners must finish before the park closes.
The 10k is one loop around Wells Mills Pond and the 20k is two loops; both start and end in front of the Wells Mills Ranger Station. Fees listed for these distances are $40 for the 20k and $30 for the 10k. Top five finishers in ten year age groups receive awards; food, music, chip timing and t-shirts are available.
Other Rat Race events include a 5k Rat Challenge in Toms River in June 2026 on woodland trails with occasional ankle deep water, a Scary Rat Race four mile run at Spring Meadow Golf Course in Allaire State Park on October 11, 2026, and a Rat Race holiday hash on December 12, 2026. All races are rain or shine. After expenses, proceeds go to Troopers Assisting Troops. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
