The Rail Runner
The Rail Runner is a community running event held at the Illinois Railway Museum, 7000 Olson Road, Union, IL, on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The event program includes multiple distances and a youth run.

Pre-race day packet pick up is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1 PM to 3 PM at the museum; runners and their families receive free museum admission that afternoon. A family add-on option is offered for adult non-runners with up to three children under 18 for museum admission on race day.
Age group awards are presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in men’s and women’s divisions across these groups: 13 and under, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. All participants in the Dash to the Depot receive finisher awards.
All proceeds from the 5K and 10K support the Illinois Railway Museum’s Tracks To Tomorrow Campaign. The campaign funds a new two-story, 36,000 square-foot Visitors Center Entrance Building with interactive exhibits, educational classrooms, climate-controlled gallery space, and consolidated operations. After the event, the museum grounds, five display barns, complimentary train rides, a large model railroad exhibit, and the Central Diner are available to visitors.
