The Rail Runner at the Illinois Railway Museum
The Rail Runner is a community running event held at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois on June 14, 2026. The event offers multiple distances and a kids race for younger participants, and proceeds support the museum's Tracks To Tomorrow capital campaign.

Pre-race packet pick up is scheduled the day before at the museum, with free museum admission that afternoon for participants and their families. Race day packet pick up and on-site registration are also noted in event information.
Awards include age group prizes for men and women in standard ranges (13 and under; 14-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 and over). All participants in the kids dash receive finisher awards. A race shirt is guaranteed for those registered by May 14, 2026.
All net proceeds from the event support IRM's Tracks To Tomorrow Campaign to build a new two-story, 36,000 square-foot visitors center entrance building with interactive exhibits, educational classrooms, climate-controlled gallery space, and consolidated operations.
Visitors can explore the museum grounds, which include multiple display barns, complimentary train rides, a large model railroad exhibit, a Central Diner, and an on-site gift shop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
