The Portland Grindfest
The Portland Grindfest is a progression track event held at Buckman Field near Benson High School in Portland, Oregon on August 14, 2026. The meet uses Benson's newly resurfaced four lane 535 meter track where three laps are about one mile.
Participants choose one of three starting waves and run as the pace advances by 20 seconds each mile. The three starting paces are 9 minute mile, 8 minute mile, and 7 minute mile. Wave 1 is described as 1600 meters (three laps) beginning at the 9 minute mile pace. Runners remain on the track until they are no longer able to maintain the required pace.
The event is organized as a sequence of repeated three-lap segments that correspond to the mile-based pace progression. Registration for each wave carries a $10 fee.
This edition of the Portland Grindfest serves as a fundraiser for Benson Cross Country. Funds collected are intended to help cover transportation, lodging, and meals for end of season meets so athletes can attend regardless of financial situation.
