PIGUM 30 (Porth i Gymru Ultra Marathon)
The PIGUM 30 is a single-loop ultramarathon around Abergavenny and the Black Mountains in Monmouthshire, Wales. The route starts and finishes in Abergavenny and includes notable climbs such as Blorenge (561 m), Crug Hywel (451 m) and Sugar Loaf (596 m). Total ascent on the full route is 6,260 ft.
The course follows a mix of trail, grass, mud, rock and some tarmac, and is described as roughly 90% trail and 10% road. The route passes village centres, canal and river sections with bridges provided at Usk crossings, historic features such as the Llanfoist Inclines and industrial quarries, and several panoramic viewpoints including the summit of Sugar Loaf.
Race support includes three checkpoints: two fully stocked aid stations plus a midpoint water station with drop bag access. The event provides professional medical cover, pre- and post-race care, a race manual with rules, and a finisher’s medal. There are no cut-off times.
Mandatory kit includes running or hiking shoes (trail shoes recommended), waterproof jacket, minimum 1 litre water bottle, fully charged mobile phone, GPX route downloaded to a device, head torch, survival bag, a reusable cup and a backpack or vest to carry equipment.
