The Pendulum 2027
The Pendulum Race in Langleeford requires runners to tackle Hedgehope Hill and The Cheviot consecutively on an 11-mile course with 3689 ft of total climb. The route is a timed fell race with race bibs issued and a finisher medal for all participants. Competitors receive a bespoke wristband at the top of each summit; showing both wristbands at the finish is required to collect the medal. A GPX file of the route is provided before the event.
The event is limited to 200 runners and has a minimum age of 18. Entries open 1 August 2026 and close 26 March 2027. The listed entry fee is £31. There is a cut-off of three hours to reach the halfway point (climb The Cheviot and return); runners who meet this cut-off may continue to Hedgehope.
The race is organised by Northern Fell Running Events Ltd with support from experienced marshals, a tail runner in constant communication, and mountain rescue. The course is well marked and includes a water station at halfway. Recommended kit includes trail shoes, waterproofs, a whistle, hat and gloves.
Event stalls at the finish operate cash only because there is no mobile signal in the valley. Parking in the valley is limited. Participants may be filmed or photographed and images may be used for promotional purposes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
