The competition consists of three distinct segments held across the Pembrokeshire coastline and the town centre:

The event takes place in September with average high air temperatures reaching 11 °C (21 °F) and low temperatures around 3 °C (16 °F). The race start is traditionally marked by the performance of the Welsh anthem.

The event serves as a qualification race for the IRONMAN World Championship. It has received athlete recognition in global surveys, specifically ranking as the second most recommended race and second best bike course globally in 2024.
