The Ozark's Mountain Challenge : Hiking (Ascent only)
The Ozark's Mountain Challenge is an ascent only hiking event in Patterson, Missouri, held at Sam A. Baker State Park on Mudlick Mountain. The format asks participants to ascend the summit eight times within a 12 hour window, a total vertical gain of about 7,980 feet and a total hiking distance of approximately 23 miles. Each single ascent is roughly 2.8 miles with nearly 950 feet of elevation change.
The route follows the Mudlick Hike Only Trail, Mudlick Equestrian and Hike Trail, and the spur to Fire Tower Trail. All Trails rates the route as hard, noting rugged terrain and inclines nearing 28 percent in places. After each successful ascent, participants are returned to the base by shuttle service.
The event is presented as a personal endurance challenge rather than a race. Registration includes food, beverages including alcohol at event gatherings, aid station hydration and nutrition, recovery services at a recovery tent, event swag, and access to the optional Spark of Strength ceremony. The Spark of Strength ceremony is a free, optional evening gathering at the CCC Lodge where participants may symbolically release personal challenges.
Additional policies and details: minimum age is 16 with minors requiring registration with an adult; pets are not allowed on the trail; spectators are permitted near the start area; there are no refunds; ticket transfers are not allowed after March 15, 2027.
