The Ozark's Mountain Challenge : Hiking (Ascent only)
The event is an ascent-only hiking challenge held in Patterson, Missouri. The course requires eight separate ascents of Mudlick Mountain for a total vertical gain of approximately 7,980 feet and a total hiking distance of about 23 miles. Participants have a twelve hour time limit to complete as many ascents as they choose.
Each successful ascent is followed by a shuttle ride back to the trailhead. The route follows Mudlick Hike Only Trail to Mudlick Equestrian and Hike Trail, then to the spur to Fire Tower Trail. The trail is rated hard on AllTrails for rugged terrain and steep sections that approach 28 percent grade in places. The event is not run as a race; it is organized as an individual endurance challenge with volunteer support and aid stations.
Registration includes on-site meals, beverages including alcohol, aid station hydration and nutrition, recovery aids at a recovery tent, event swag, and admission to an after-party. An optional Spark of Strength ceremony takes place the evening before at the CCC Lodge where participants may write and burn notes to symbolize letting go; attendance is free and no pre-registration for the ceremony is required.
Minimum age to participate is 16 years; minors must be registered with an adult. No refunds are offered. Ticket transfers are not allowed after March 15, 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
