The New Year's Duathlon & 5K Run
The New Year’s Duathlon and 5K Trail Run take place at Granite Beach, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area in Granite Bay, California. The duathlon is offered for individuals and 2-person relay teams and follows a run-bike-run format. The 5K is a separate trail race along the lake shoreline.
Distances:
- Duathlon: 2 mile run, 5 mile bike, 2 mile run
- 5K Trail Run: 5 kilometers on lakeside trails
The duathlon run legs use granite paths, single-track trails, and a short pavement section, with aid stations at the start of the run and at the halfway point. The bike course is a 5 mile road route on closed roads within Folsom Lake State Park; competitors are advised to take care on several sharp turns. The 5K follows a gentle rolling trail with lake views, marked with many signs and supported by friendly aid stations.
Awards include an Overall Champion prize for the first male and female finishers and Top Three awards in each 10-year age group for both the duathlon and the 5K. Overall results will be posted for all finishers.
Postrace refreshments include hot soup, cookies, and fruit provided free to competitors. The events are fundraising races for Maria and Joseph's Ministry to the Poor. Long-sleeved tech tees are available for pre-order in sizes XS through XXL for $30 if ordered before December 27. TBF Racing enforces a no refund policy; pre-race week refunds are issued as race credit minus a $25 processing fee. Transfers are allowed within a one-year time frame for a $25 fee.
