The Naturalist - Franklin, NC
The Naturalist Trail Race is a fall trail event in downtown Franklin that follows sections of the historic Bartram Trail. The course leads from Main Street to Wallace Branch and includes a sustained ascent to Wayah Bald; the 50K route circles the Wayah Bald area before returning along the trail. All participants receive a custom pint glass as a keepsake.
Distances offered
- 25K: roughly 5,500 feet of elevation gain
- 50K: exceed 8,500 feet of gain
Hydration and nutrition are available at multiple aid stations stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, fruit, energy bars and other snacks. Runners tackling the Wayah Bald ascent are advised to carry at least one liter of water. Aid station locations include mile 3.5 (Wallace Branch, limited aid), mile 9 (Harrison Gap), mile 14.5 (Wayah Bald summit), mile 19.5 (Harrison Gap return, 50K only) and mile 25 (Wallace Branch return, 50K only).
Race logistics note a field limit of 150 entrants combined, limited parking at Wayah Bald, and a free shuttle back to the start for 25K runners. Cutoffs are enforced at key aid stations.
