About the race
The Montane Lakeland 50 & 100 is the UK’s premier ultra-trail event in the Lake District. The Lakeland 100 is a 100-mile circular starting and finishing in Coniston, looping through Dunnerdale, Eskdale, Wasdale and Buttermere, then Keswick, Matterdale, Haweswater and back via Kentmere, Ambleside and Elterwater. The Lakeland 50 covers the final 50 miles, starting at Dalemain Estate near Ullswater and finishing in Coniston.
Both routes use public bridleways and footpaths, with about 6,300m of ascent (100) and 3,100m (50). The race is continuous with 14 staffed checkpoints, navigation required, and a 40-hour limit for the 100 and 24 hours for the 50, making finishers’ medals highly prized.
