Event overview

The Montane Lakeland 50 & 100 takes place over the weekend of 24–26 July 2026 in the Lake District, based at Coniston. There are two official events: a 100-mile route that starts and finishes at Coniston, and a 50-mile route that starts at Dalemain Estate north of Pooley Bridge and finishes at Coniston. Entries for the event are listed as full. Minimum age to enter is 18. Entry fees listed are £190 for the 100 and £160 for the 50.

Course and logistics

The 100-mile route is a clockwise circular tour of the Lakeland fells, using almost entirely public bridleways and footpaths and including roughly 6300 m of ascent. It passes through Dunnerdale fells, Eskdale, Wasdale, Buttermere, Keswick, Matterdale, Haweswater, Kentmere, Ambleside and Elterwater before returning to Coniston. The route does not cross the popular Lakeland summits.

The 50-mile route follows the second half of the 100-mile course and includes about 3100 m of ascent. The 100 has 14 compulsory staffed checkpoints with food and drink; the 50 has 6 such checkpoints. Time limits are given as 40 hours for the 100 and 24 hours for the 50. The event requires experience in ultra distances and navigation on rough, fell terrain. Failure rates on the 100 are described as high. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
