Montane Lakeland 50 & 100

The Montane Lakeland 50 and 100 are ultra trail races held in the Lake District, Cumbria, UK. The events use public bridleways and footpaths through the lakeland fells.

Lakeland 100

The Lakeland 100 is a circular route starting and finishing in Coniston. It encompasses the whole of the lakeland fells with approximately 6300m of ascent. The route passes through valleys and contours fells, including Dunnerdale fells, Eskdale, Wasdale, Buttermere, Keswick, Matterdale, Haweswater, Kentmere, Ambleside, and Elterwater.

The event has an overall time limit of 40 hours. There are 14 staffed checkpoints that competitors must visit, where food and drink are available. The failure rate is around 40-50%. Participants need experience in ultra distance running and excellent navigation skills.

Lakeland 50

The Lakeland 50 covers the final 50 miles of the Lakeland 100 course, with almost 3000m of ascent. It starts from Dalemain Estate near Penrith and finishes in Coniston. The route includes Ullswater, Howtown, Haweswater, Mardale Head, Long Sleddale, Kentmere, Ambleside, Langdale, and Tilberthwaite.

The time limit is 24 hours. There are 6 staffed checkpoints with food and drink. Competitors range from elite runners to walkers; elite runners can finish in a little over 7 hours.
