The Mogadishu Mile
The Mogadishu Mile is a commemorative running event held on 10/03/2026 at Lock Haven VFW in Lock Haven, PA. The event honors service members who fought and died during the Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993. The battle took place on 3–4 October 1993 and involved U.S. forces and elements of the Somali National Alliance during the wider Somali Civil War that began in 1991.
The historical engagement included overnight fighting and the shooting down of UH-60 helicopters, with subsequent efforts to defend survivors and withdraw by foot and by armored convoy. Reported casualties for the incident include 18 U.S. dead and 73 wounded; estimates of Somali casualties vary widely.
