The Medway Mile 2026
The Medway Mile is a free community sports event at Medway Park, Mill Road, Gillingham, taking place on 17 July 2026. The event is presented as part of the Love Gillingham Campaign and highlights the diversity of sport and physical activity in Medway.
The programme includes free sporting activities and taster sessions from local clubs, children's and family fun races on the Medway Park athletics track, a mascot race, competitive mile track races organised with Medway and Maidstone Athletics Club, a licensed elite mile on the track, a mass warm up and a mass participation mile that finishes within the grounds of the athletics track. Children's and family races are organised on the night with no prebooking required.
Organisers state that this year participants will not be provided with free T shirts; funds will be invested in free activities, entertainment and medals for junior participants. Club partners listed for taster sessions include local rugby, football, basketball, korfball, wheelchair rugby and boxing clubs, plus other activity providers. Catering will be available from onsite vendors and there will be space for spectators and informal social activity after the mass mile.
