About the race
The McTaggart Trot returns to Eppleby Village on Sunday 20 December 2026, with the event based at the village hall. The event is organised to raise funds for St Teresa's Hospice.
The format is team-based. Teams of three run together at the pace of their slowest team member. The course is a 3.1 mile (5 km) loop; after the first loop the slowest runner stops (5 km), after the second loop the second runner stops (10 km), and the final runner completes the third loop alone to finish at 15 km. Individuals may enter and provide an expected time; the organiser will place them in a team if needed. Competitors are encouraged to wear Christmas outfits.
The route is described as undulating on road and pavement. The event lists a maximum of 350 entrants and a minimum age of 10 years. Entry options include the following distances, each with an entry fee of £12.00:
- 3.1 miles (5 km)
- 6.2 miles (10 km)
- 9.3 miles (15 km)
