Event overview

The Maverick Cotswolds Trail 2026 takes place on Saturday 16 May 2026 at Sudeley Castle, Castle Street, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire (GL54 5LP). Organised by Maverick Race, the event is set across estate land of about 1,200 acres in the Cotswold Hills AONB and starts from the Tudor castle. Routes follow established trails and join several Long Distance Paths, including the Winchcombe, Gloucestershire and Cotswold Way. The courses pass through picturesque villages, countryside and ancient sites and feature undulating terrain.

Outposts: none on the Short route; one on the Middle route (approx 9 km); two on the Half Marathon (approx 9 km and 16 km); four on the Marathon and 50k Ultra. Outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drinks. There will be no pre-filled water cups; runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle to use the self-serve water barrels. Toilets are available at the start/finish area and at OP4 on the Ultra and Marathon routes. Headphones are strongly not recommended.

Mandatory and recommended kit: all runners are advised to carry at least 1 litre of water and a mobile phone. The Half Marathon requires a minimum of 1 litre of water. The Marathon and 50k Ultra require waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, minimum 1 litre water, foil blanket, whistle, self-adhering bandage, cap or buff, reusable cup and GPX of the route.
