Santas on the Train - Plym Valley Railway
Santas on the Train is a festive, untimed 3k fun run held at Plym Valley Railway in Plymouth. Participants travel to the start line on a restored steam locomotive and can enjoy Christmas entertainment on board before walking, jogging or running the course in seasonal costumes.
The route includes four themed stations—selfie, snow, song and sweet—where participants can stop and collect stamps. Stamps can be exchanged for a gift at the finish, and everyone receives a finishers medal and a visit with Santa. There are competitions and prizes for best fancy dress in several categories, including adults, children, groups and buggies. Organisers encourage creative, reusable costumes rather than single-use suits.
Entry is limited to 120 places per wave. Spectators and dogs are permitted only at the race start line at Plymbridge. On-the-day registrations are not accepted. Free parking is available at Coypool carpark opposite the station.
The event raises funds for Children's Hospice South West; each participant is asked to commit to a fundraising target of £35 per person or £93 per family. Examples of impact given by organisers include support for a 24-hour phone line and providing hours of care at a hospice during the Christmas period.
