Coastal Running in East Devon
The Maer event identifies as a coastal race series held in Exmouth, now entering its seventh year. Both the 10 km and Half Marathon routes begin and end at Sidshore, following the same initial course before splitting at the 5 km mark. The event is chip-timed and features a multi-terrain environment that includes seafront roads, disused railway lines, and coastal paths along the Devon coastline.
The event offers two main race distances:
- 10 km
- Half Marathon
The 10 km route is a single-lap course starting on the Exmouth seafront. It winds through the town before heading toward the coast path. Runners experience a downhill stretch leading to the Geoneedle at Orcombe Point and follow the coast path back to the finish line.
The Half Marathon is a single-lap, multi-terrain course. It follows a disused train line toward Budleigh Salterton before climbing approximately 1000 ft along the coastal path. Due to the nature of the route, a cut-off time exists at the split point; participants must reach this 5 km mark within 36 minutes to continue on the half marathon course.
Registration typically includes a finishers medal, although a lower-cost "No Medal" entry option is available. Race number collection is located on-site. The 10 km is open to participants aged 15 and over, while the Half Marathon requires a minimum age of 17. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
