Harvey Mills Longest Day 10K
The Harvey Mills Longest Day 10K is an annual running event held in Brookings, South Dakota. Organized by the Prairie Striders Running Club, the race is notable for being one of the few 10 km distance events available in the local area. Participants can choose to compete individually or as part of a relay team.
The course consists of two loops around the Dakota Nature Park. The event starts and finishes at the Fishback Soccer Complex, situated at the intersection of Medary Avenue and 20th Street South. Due to the timing of the race in June, the weather is frequently hot and humid. A water station may be provided at the midpoint of the course, depending on the specific weather conditions on the day of the event.
Available distances include:
- 10 km individual run
- 10 km relay
The event features an open division for both the individual race and the relay. Awards are presented to the first, second, and third-place finishers in the male and female categories. All proceeds from the race are donated to support cross country programs at Brookings High School and South Dakota State University. Optional event shirts are available for purchase on-site on a first-come, first-serve basis. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
