The Last Duel Trail Race
The Last Duel Trail Race is scheduled for 23 August 2026 and is presented as a 200th anniversary special by Fife Athletic Club and Kirkcaldy Wizards. The course is based in Cardenden Woods, with the start and finish located in the playpark next to Cardenden Primary School. The route is approximately 5.7 miles and passes the site where the last pistol duel in Scotland took place on 23 August 1826.
The route begins on a gravel path and follows a farm track into woodland, featuring a mixture of trail surfaces and quickly changing terrain. Runners will pass under a dual carriageway, cross a small timber bridge, weave around trees and finish on nearby playing fields. The course is mainly off-road and can be very muddy, rocky or rooted; trail shoes are recommended.
Registration is handled at the Corrie Centre and all race numbers are provided in a goodie bag together with a medal; numbers are not posted. Entries close on 9 August 2026 and there will be no entries on the day. Entry fee information is provided, with a standard fee of £17.00 and a discount for Scottish Athletics members. Total places are limited to 150.
Runners must be at least 16 years old, be eligible under Scottish Athletics rules and be physically fit to complete the distance. No changing facilities are provided and refreshments and prize giving take place at the Corrie Centre. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers.
