The Kymin

The Kymin is a winter fell race held on 17 January 2027 in Monmouth. The event uses Monmouth School Sports Club on Hadnock Road, Monmouth NP25 3NG as the event location. The course covers 6.3 km (3.9 mi) with approximately 350 m of ascent and forms part of the South Wales Winter Hill Series.

Terrain is mainly lowland with heights rarely above 300 m. The route includes some moderately challenging sections on tracks and fell paths. Underfoot surfaces can be rough with stones and roots hidden by leaves, and one field descent becomes particularly slippery in wet weather. Parts of the course run on open roads where traffic is possible. There are many options to retire to roads if required, and escape routes are available throughout the course.

Navigation skills are not required and the route is straightforward to follow, though marking may vary. Recorded fastest times on the course are 29:23 for the male record (2020) and 32:49 for the female record (2020). The minimum entry age is over 14. Entry fees listed are £8 pre-entry via Fabian4 and possibly £10 on the day; the entry fee includes refreshments at the Mayhill hotel. The event is insured by the WFRA. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
