The Kingdom of Northumbria Coastal Ultra

The Kingdom of Northumbria Coastal Ultra is a trail running event held along the coastline of Northumberland. The race follows an A-B format, meaning the start and finish locations are different. Participants travel through a landscape that includes landmarks such as Beadnell Harbour, Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster Village, and Warkworth Castle.

Available race distances include:

  • 54 km Ultra
  • 27 km Ultra

The 54 km course begins at the Links Road car park in Bamburgh, near Bamburgh Castle. The 27 km course starts at the Boulmer Lifeboat Station. Both distances finish at Druridge Bay Country Park. Because the event is a point-to-point race, participants must arrange their own transport or book the provided shuttle bus to the start line; there are no return buses after the event.

To ensure participant safety, there is a mandatory kit list. Runners are required to carry a backpack containing water or fluids, food or gels, a lightweight jacket, and a charged mobile phone with emergency contact information. A headtorch is also necessary for those finishing after 4:30 pm. The event features live chip timing and includes well-stocked feed stations at Low Newton, Boulmer, and Warkworth Beach. All finishers receive a medal, a t-shirt, and snacks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
