Course, history and participation
The half marathon course consists of three loops at the community college plus roughly 2.5 loops at Earlywine. A route map is provided for the 10k as well. The event began as a Christmas Eve run in 2009 to honor deployed service members and grew in subsequent years; early editions reported 24 runners in 2010, 43 the next year, and 60 in 2012. The event has also been hosted in other locations, including Virginia Beach in 2013, and the tradition has continued in other communities.
