The Kilgore Half Marathon & 10k
The Kilgore Half Marathon, also called The Run for the Deployed, is a Christmas Eve running event held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The event includes a half marathon and a 10K and has an associated volunteer role. Distances offered include:
- 13.1 Miles Half Marathon
- 10K 10 kilometer race
The event began in 2009 when a participant ran a half marathon on Christmas Eve while deployed. Early editions hosted from a local home drew small groups that grew over several years, with recorded fields of 24 and 43 participants in the first two years and 60 participants in a later edition held in cold conditions. After a move away from Oklahoma City, the run was hosted in Virginia Beach in 2013, and other participants have continued the tradition in various cities and states.
For the 2026 edition, registration was offered at no fee and registration windows were made available; however, organizers note that registration is not required to participate. The event expresses support for service members and includes a community gathering aspect that has included shared food and informal meetups among participants.
