The Jackalope Lope : Redding Trail Alliance

The Jackalope Lope is an annual trail running event held in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Whiskeytown, CA. The 2026 edition is the fourth running of the event and offers multiple course options on natural singletrack, dirt roads, and trail segments around Brandy Creek and surrounding areas.

Distances offered:

  • 9 mile
  • 20.5 mile
  • 52K

Course details vary by distance. The shorter course begins on a wide road and quickly moves to rugged, steep singletrack on Brandy Creek Trail, includes a mellower section on Rich Gulch Trail, and finishes with a technical descent. The medium course follows south shore road to Carr Power House, uses Mill Creek dirt road and Boulder Creek Trail, connects to Papoose, and returns via Brandy Creek and Rich Gulch; drop bag service is available. The ultra 52K follows the medium route before climbing Panther Gap on Peltier Valley road and ascending to Kanka Peak, where runners collect a token before returning the same way; the 52K covers just over 32 miles with an estimated 6,400 feet of elevation.

The event provides marked courses, aid stations, food and beverages, and a post-race gathering. A valid National Park Pass is required to participate. Proceeds support trail maintenance and the local trail system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
