Event Overview
The Redding Marathon Events take place in Redding, California, featuring a variety of distances held along the Sacramento River. The primary event is a full marathon that serves as a Boston Qualifier. Runners can also participate in a 3-person marathon relay or a 5 km race. The events are organized by the SWEAT Running Club and typically take place in January.
Course Details
The marathon course begins north of Redding at the Shasta Dam in Shasta Lake City. Participants run across the dam and descend to a paved trail following the Sacramento River. The route includes a section through the town of Old Shasta, which features a steep climb followed by a descent back toward the river.
The final segments of the course utilize the Sacramento River Trail, crossing the historic Diestlhorst Bridge. The marathon and the 5 km race both finish at the Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay, an iconic glass structure. The 5 km course is certified and offers views of the river.
