The Island Run
The Island Run is a coastal running event held along the Kent coast, organized through a partnership between Sporting Events UK and the Rotary Club of Minster-on-Sea. Having taken place for over 40 years in various formats, the event raises funds for local charities in the surrounding area. The route features a flat course that follows the seafront of Sheerness and Minster-on-Sea.
Participants can choose between two distances:
- 10 km (Minimum age 15 years)
- 5 km (Minimum age 11 years)
The flat nature of the seafront route is suitable for participants seeking personal best times or those new to organized running events. The race utilizes an out and back format along the sea wall, with some sections passing near local landmarks such as the church and small casino.
Every runner who completes the course receives a unique medal specifically commissioned for the event. On-site facilities include toilets at the venue and car parking located nearby. Registration is available via advanced entry until the Wednesday before the race, with on-the-day entries permitted if space allows. Under UK Athletics rules, age requirements are strictly enforced based on the participant's age on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
