Event overview

Winter Wanderlust 50km is an ultra-trail race on 21 December 2025 that follows the North Downs Way from Detling Village Hall, Detling, Kent, to Wye Village Hall, Wye, Kent. The race distance is 50 km with approximately 1,000 m of elevation gain. Entry fees are listed at about £66–£68. The event is run under a Trail Running Association permit and follows England Athletics rules. Participants must be 20 years or older on race day.

Course, checkpoints and logistics

The route passes Boxley Warren, Thurnham Castle, Lenham Cross and finishes with an 8 km loop through Wye Downs Nature Reserve, including the Wye Crown and Devil's Kneading Trough. There are three checkpoints: at about 9 km (indoor, snacks, drinks, toilets), 25 km (outdoor, snacks and drinks) and 39 km (indoor, hot food, drinks, toilets). Checkpoint 3 has a checkpoint cutoff of 7 hours 45 minutes and an overall race cutoff of 10 hours.

On-course medical support and live GPS tracking are provided. The race uses fully marked routes and offers bag transfer from start to finish. Optional pre-booked shuttle transport from the finish back to the start is available for a fee and is limited in capacity. Free parking is available near the start and finish with local parking restrictions noted. Random kit checks will be made; required items include a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 L water capacity, waterproof jacket, survival blanket, primary headtorch (min. 75 lumens), long-sleeve base layer, warm hat and gloves, and a reusable cup.
