The Hurt Half Marathon

The Hurt Half Marathon is a trail running event held on routes over the Surrey Hills and through Hurtwood Forest near Guildford, about 45 minutes from London. It offers two distances:

  • 21k
  • 15k

The courses run through pine forest and along the Greensand Ridge, including steep escarpments, sunken sandy and rocky footpaths, narrow gulleys, rocks, mud and small streams. The route includes multiple climbs and descents and is described as requiring trail shoes. Route files are provided for both distances.

Facilities on site include free parking adjacent to the start, toilets and refreshments. Registration is on the day where participants collect a race number and timing chip; nothing is posted before the event. Water stations are positioned along the routes: three for the 21k (around 5k, 13.5k and 18.5k) and two for the 15k (around 5k and 10k).

There are some road crossings and a short section of back road; some crossings may be marshalled but runners are responsible for checking it is safe to cross and should expect to see cars. The area is also used by horse riders, mountain bikers and dog walkers so participants should take care around other land users.

Medals are awarded to all finishers and jars of Hurt jam are given to the top three finishers. Online entry fees listed are £31 for the 15k and £35 for the 21k, excluding service fees. Volunteer opportunities are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
