Box Hill Vertical KM
The Box Hill Vertical KM is a guided trail run that focuses on steep, hilly terrain around Box Hill, Dorking, Surrey. It is scheduled for Saturday 3 May 2026 and Saturday 5 December 2026. Participants meet at Stepping Stones Car Park, Box Hill. The route covers 12.5 miles and gains approximately 1000 m of elevation. The advertised cost is £19 per person. Parking is available and the location is a short run or taxi ride from a train station.
Route, format and requirements
The route goes through woodland, heathland and open fields and is designed to achieve over 1000 m of ascent in a short distance. The course includes technical sections and some climbs that require scrambling on hands and knees. The event is run as a group rather than a race and will be kept at a steady pace with pauses at the top of climbs when needed. The run is led by a qualified guide who is a mountain leader and coach. Participants are expected to be able to sustain an average pace of about 10 minutes per mile (6 minutes per km) on trail for prolonged periods. A full kit list will be provided and trail shoes are available to test. An alcohol-free beer may be offered at the end, subject to availability.
