Event Overview

The Hilly Helmet Challenge returns to Westbury for its tenth edition, known as Hilly Helmet X. This evening event is held at the Leighton Recreation Centre and follows a route through local trails. The run is organized to support the charity Brain Tumour Support, with 100% of entry fees going directly to the organization to fund their services.

A defining characteristic of this event is the requirement for participants to wear a helmet while running. This element is central to the event's identity and stems from its founding purpose. To encourage creativity, prizes are awarded for the best helmet worn during the run. In addition to the helmet prize, awards are also presented to the first male and female finishers.

Participant Information

The course utilizes narrow trails which may become slippery depending on weather conditions. Due to these terrain features, the event is not suitable for wheelchair users. For the safety of all participants, running with dogs is not permitted.

Facilities at the Leighton Recreation Centre are typically available for use by participants. In previous years, refreshments and a BBQ have been provided by the Westbury Cricket Club. All finishers receive a pottery memento to mark their participation.

The event operates under an Association of Running Clubs race permit. Registration is open to both affiliated and non-affiliated runners, with a discount available for members of the Association of Running Clubs and England Athletics. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
