Hardwolds 40
The Hardwolds 40 is a point to point ultramarathon scheduled for 27 June 2026 covering 47 miles with approximately 4,600 ft (1,402 m) of ascent and an overall time limit of 20 hours. The event holds an Association of Running Clubs race permit 26/0124. The race finishes at Malton Community Sports Centre.
The route follows the Hudson Way from Beverley to join the Wolds Way near Goodmanham and continues along the Wolds Way, with a diversion into Millington, then via Fridaythorpe, Thixendale and the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy. The route leaves the Wolds Way near Settrington Beacon and follows the Centenary Way into Malton. A 2025 diversion runs from Londesborough into Nunburnholme and back onto the Wolds Way.
Checkpoints are provisioned with water, food and coke; several indoor checkpoints provide hot drinks and hot food. Two non returnable drop bags are allowed at Millington (about 18 miles) and Thixendale (about 30 miles). Mandatory tracking devices are used and time penalties apply for missed checkpoints. Mandatory kit must be carried for the full race and will be spotchecked; failure to carry required items may result in time penalties or disqualification.
Support crews are limited to one vehicle and one or two people and may meet runners at specified support points. A support runner is permitted for the final 7 miles from Settrington Beacon and must not carry the competitor's gear. Finishers receive a race medal and a finisher T shirt.
