The Grind 5K Run/Walk at Beck's Mill
The Grind 5K is a rolling out and back road event held at Beck's Mill in Washington County, Indiana, located about five miles south of Salem. The course begins with a steep "Grind" hill and proceeds through quiet countryside on public roads.
Race entry includes admission to the historic Beck's Mill and grounds for participants and their families on race day, plus post-race breakfast and snacks. Visitors can tour the restored mill, visit the waterfall at the old mill dam, and use the hiking trails on the property. The mill dates to 1808 and was returned to operational condition in 2008.
The event offers both a 5K run and a 5K walk. Walk-division registrants are required to walk the entire course; running or other forward motion is not permitted in the walk division. A timing system will score competitors via age groups. Finisher medals are awarded to the first 100 finishers. Awards are presented to the overall top three male and female finishers in both the run and the walk.
Registration pricing through August 30 is twenty five dollars with a shirt or twenty dollars without a shirt. After August 30 the fee is twenty five dollars with no shirt guarantee; additional shirts may be available race day while supplies last. The Grind 5K is part of the Mag 7 Race series and serves as the mill's largest annual fundraiser, with all proceeds benefiting Friends of Beck's Mill.
