About the race
The Great Railway Run is a road running event organised by the Carrigaline & District Lions Club with the support of Carrigaline AC. The race covers a distance of 25K along the route of the old railway line from Cork City to Carrigaline.
The predominantly flat course passes through Blackrock, Rochestown, Passage, Monkstown, Raffeen and Shanbally before finishing at the Lions Youth Centre on Church Road, Carrigaline. A bus service operates between the start and finish locations; the bus fare is €5 and includes return baggage transfer. The bus can only be booked during event registration and cash is not accepted on the day.
The event is presented as a test of pace and fitness ahead of longer races such as the Cork City Marathon. Permit approval for the event is pending. Entry offers listed include an early bird price of €40 for the 25K distance. Contact information for the organiser is provided via the event website.
