General Information

The Great Kinder Barrel Race is an annual fell running event held in the village of Edale, located in the Hope Valley. The event honors a local story where a team carried a barrel of beer over the moors from the Snake Pass Inn to Edale. Since 2023, the event has utilized a course that starts and finishes in Edale, with its base at the Newfold Farm Campsite near the Nags Head Pub.

This event serves as a fundraiser, with all proceeds supporting local education at Edale and Hope primary schools. The venue is accessible by train, and participants who arrive by rail are offered cake. Public parking is available in the village for those traveling by car, including reserved spots for participating teams to transport their equipment.

Events

The competition features three different categories:

  • The Barrel: A traditional race where teams of eight transport a barrel of beer over the moors.
  • The Pint: An individual fell race for solo runners following the same course as the barrel teams.
  • The Half Pint: A children's race designed with a less difficult route for younger participants.

Venue Amenities

The event is organized as a family friendly day with various activities located at the Newfold Farm campsite field. On-site facilities include a barbecue, a cake stall, a bar, and a bouncy castle for spectators and participants. Visitors can also walk to various points along the moors to watch the teams and individual runners pass by. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
