The Great Island Trek
The Great Island Trek takes place on Magnetic Island, Townsville, Queensland on 8 August 2026. It is a fully supported, non competitive trekking event that follows marked trail routes across the island and finishes with a community afterparty called TrekFest at Nomads in celebration of the event tenth anniversary.
Participants can choose from multiple route distances:
- 5 km All Ability flat course in Nelly Bay
- 12 km trail route
- 18 km trail route
- 25 km trail route
The Just Better Care All Ability 5 km is described as inclusive and wheelchair friendly, running along a flat course in Nelly Bay. Entry fees include a fully supported walk across Magnetic Island, entry to the TrekFest afterparty, a high quality event tee, on course fruit and hydration stations supplied by Woolworths Townsville, on course professional photography, bag transfer from start to finish, a chartered bus transfer after the event from Nomads to the Nelly Bay ferry terminal, discount SeaLink ferry travel and accommodation deals with Best of Magnetic. The event lists Fuel for Schools as its charity partner and notes a number of local sponsors including Woolworths, SeaLink and Best of Magnetic.
