The Great Island Trek
The Great Island Trek is a fully supported, non competitive trekking event on Magnetic Island, Townsville, Queensland, Australia, held on 8 August 2026. The event offers a choice of trail distances and a flat all-ability option that follows a course in Nelly Bay.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 km All-Ability flat course in Nelly Bay, wheelchair friendly.
- 12 km trail route.
- 18 km trail route.
- 25 km trail route.
The event includes on course fruit and hydration stations provided by Woolworths Townsville, on course professional photography, and bag transfer from the start to the finish. Entry also covers a high quality event tee, access to the TrekFest afterparty at Nomads, and a chartered bus transfer after the event from Nomads to the Nelly Bay Ferry terminal. The trek supports the charity Fuel for Schools. The event lists multiple local sponsors and provides fully supported walk services across Magnetic Island.
