Event Overview
The Great Island Trek is a non-competitive trekking event held on Magnetic Island, Queensland. The event offers participants the opportunity to explore the island's natural landscape at their own pace through a variety of distances. The 2026 edition marks the 10th anniversary of the event.
Course Categories
Participants can select from several trail and road routes:
- 25 km trail route
- 18 km trail route (multiple wave starts)
- 12 km trail route (available for adults and children)
- 5 km All-Ability adventure (flat, wheelchair-friendly course in Nelly Bay)
Participant Services
The event is fully supported and registration includes several amenities. Participants receive an event tee and have access to fruit and hydration stations along the course. Bag transfer services are provided to move personal belongings from the start line to the finish line. Professional photography is available on the course to capture the trek. Following the walk, a chartered bus transfer is provided from the finish area at Nomads to the Nelly Bay Ferry terminal.
Event Atmosphere
Entry fees include access to the TrekFest afterparty held at Nomads. The trek is a fundraising event with Fuel for Schools serving as the official charity partner.
