The Great Island Trek
The Great Island Trek is a fully supported, non competitive walk across Magnetic Island organised by Destination Adventure. The 2026 edition is titled The Carmichael Ford Great Island Trek and marks the event's tenth anniversary. Entries go on sale Monday 9th March 2026.
Participants can choose from multiple route lengths and explore coastal and island trails at their own pace.

Entry fees include a high quality performance event tee, on course fruit and hydration stations provided by Woolworths, on course professional photography, and bag transfer from the start line to the finish line. The event package also lists chartered bus transfer after the event from Nomads to the Nelly Bay ferry terminal, discount travel with SeaLink passenger ferry, accommodation deals with Best of Magnetic, entry into Trekfest, and access to the Tropical Daze live music event.
The event is run as a plastic free event with no plastic cups or bottles supplied; participants are asked to bring their own hydration packs to refill at water stations. Organisers advise visitors to check clothing and gear for seeds and pests, to stay on marked tracks, and to take all rubbish with them. Course routes are subject to change for safety reasons such as high tides or fallen trees; any changes will be clearly marked on event day.
