The Great Island Trek
The Great Island Trek is a fully supported, non-competitive walk across Magnetic Island. The event celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026 and offers a choice of multiple route lengths so participants can select the distance that suits them. Entries go on sale Monday 9 March 2026.
Included with entry are a high quality performance event tee, entry to the Tropical Daze live music event, on-course fruit and hydration stations provided by Woolworths, on-course professional photography, bag transfer from start to finish, and a chartered bus transfer after the event from Nomads to the NellyBay Ferry terminal. Discount travel with SeaLink and accommodation deals with Best of Magnetic are also offered. The event lists Fuel for Schools as its charity partner.
The event is managed as a plastic free event: there will be no plastic cups or bottles supplied and participants are asked to bring refillable hydration packs for water station refills. Organisers also highlight island biosecurity: check clothing for seeds, stay on marked tracks, and remove all rubbish.
Course layouts are subject to change due to conditions such as high tides, fallen trees, or other safety considerations advised by QPWS; any changes will be clearly marked on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
