About the race
The Great Frosty Forest is a multi-distance trail event held at Prince William Forest Park Campground in Dumfries, Virginia. The event offers several timed distances and counts points toward year-long series and a winter series.
Distances include:
- 5k: trail course
- 10k: mostly trail with over one mile of paved road
- Half marathon: about 75% trail and 25% pavement
- Full marathon: about 75% trail and 25% pavement
- 50k: added trail ultra distance
Course and services are described as heavily wooded trails with technical obstacles such as tree roots, stones, and steep inclines. Water stations are placed along each course: two on the 5k, two on the 10k, six on the half marathon, and twelve on the full marathon; Gatorade is available at some stations. Portajohns are available near the start and finish area.
Participants receive a finisher medal, a technical Drifit event shirt (shirts guaranteed for registrants before a stated date), and chip timing. Live results are posted during the race and final results with series points are published after the event. Awards are given to top three men and women overall and to first and second place in standard age categories. Walkers are welcome. A virtual run option is offered.
