About the race
The Great Frosty Forest event takes place on January 31, 2027 at Prince William Forest Park Campground in Dumfries, VA. It offers multiple distances on park trails and road sections and includes a newly added 50K trail option.
Distances
- 5k - trail run
- 10k - mostly trail with over a mile of paved road
- Half Marathon - about 75% trail and 25% pavement
- Full Marathon - about 75% trail and 25% pavement
- 50k - trail ultramarathon
Courses are heavily wooded with several hills and technical obstacles such as tree roots, stones, and steep inclines. Water stations are placed on each course: two for the 5k, two for the 10k, six for the half marathon, and twelve for the full marathon. Gatorade is available at some stations. Portajohns are available near the start and finish area.
Points from the races count toward the Year‑Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series and also toward the Winter Series. The event benefits Semper K9. Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical event shirt when registered before the cutoff date, and chip timing is used. A virtual race option is offered and walkers are welcome. Packet pickup is available at the event and there is no on site race registration. Time limits apply for longer distances; the 50K and full marathon have official time limits.
