The Great Cow Harbor 10K Run
The event in Northport, NY includes a competitive 10K road race and a 2K Fun Run/Walk that attracts families and participants of all ages. The 10K is a USATF certified course and a course map is provided by the organizer.
Staging uses numbered color series based on predicted finish time; runners are grouped and released in successive waves, with each group started one minute after the previous group. Runners must start in their assigned wave to receive an adjusted computer finish time.
On-course features and services include split clocks at every mile, a recorded 5K split time, water stations at the start and just after the 2, 3, 4 and 5 mile marks, baggage trucks for bag check, and same-day finish line photos and video. An award ceremony is held at the gazebo and a raffle is run from the gazebo; winners must be present to claim raffle prizes. Media coverage and live online results are provided.
Prize structure and awards are published for Top 10 overall men and women, masters prizes, top age-group awards across many male and female age categories, and top para-athlete awards. Bib pickup is scheduled the day before and on race morning at designated locations; bib numbers are also distributed electronically. The event is a nonprofit effort with proceeds benefiting local and regional causes including Special Olympics Long Island and other charities.
