Eternal Damnation Backyard Ultra : Wilson State Park, Kansas
The Eternal Damnation Backyard Ultra is a Last Man Standing backyard ultra held on the Switchgrass mountain bike trail at Wilson State Park near Dorrance/Sylvan Grove, Kansas. The start and finish are in the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot and the course runs beside Wilson Lake. The first 3/4 mile is on pavement, then the route continues on single-track mountain bike trail.
Each lap is 4 miles 880 feet (4.167 miles; 6.7056 kilometers). Runners have one hour to complete each lap and each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous start. The starting corral is measured to fit the entire field and remains the same size throughout the event; competitors must be in the corral at the bell.
The event enforces backyard ultra rules: competitors may not leave the course except for restrooms, no non-competitors are allowed on the course, no personal aid during a loop, and no artificial aids such as trekking poles or dogs. Slow runners must allow passes. Timing of loops is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; results record distance covered and if no runner completes one more loop than anyone else, no winner is declared.
Logistics and amenities: each runner receives a 10 by 10 area near the start/finish and separate runner parking is provided. Water, Proxima C Endurance Fuel, and nighttime coffee are supplied; participants must bring their own cup and are responsible for food and first aid. Crew is limited to two people per runner. All runners receive a race shirt and a custom wooden finisher plaque with distance burned in; special awards are given to the last male and female standing and to finishers who reach 100 miles.
