The Eternal Damnation Backyard
The event takes place at Wilson State Park (Hell Creek area) outside Dorrance, KS, with the start and finish at the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot.
The course begins with about three quarters of a mile on pavement, then continues entirely on single-track mountain bike trail beside Wilson Lake. Each lap starts and ends in the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot. The required lap length is 4 miles 880 feet (metric equivalent 6.7056 kilometers).
This is a backyard ultra format. Each loop must be started exactly on the hour at the bell and completed within the hour to count. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell; late starts are not allowed. Except for restroom breaks, runners may not leave the course during a loop. No personal aid is allowed while on a loop, though common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not allowed. Timing of loops is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; the event is open ended. Participants must be at least 16 years old.
Organizers provide water and Proxima C Endurance Fuel. Runners are otherwise self-sustained and should bring their own food. There is no electrical supply for crew or runners. Each runner may bring two crew members and set up a pop-up in the start/finish area. Eliminated runners may remain to watch and cheer.
All runners receive a shirt and a custom finishers plaque with the distance burned on site. Runners who complete 24 hours (100 miles) receive a custom embroidered item mailed after the event. Special awards are planned for the last runner standing, the assist, and last male and female standing. UltraSignup will record each participant's total finishing mileage rather than a DNF.
No refunds and no bib transfers are allowed. Deferral credit is available on a sliding scale: 100% credit if canceled more than 60 days before the race, 50% credit before 30 days, 25% credit before 14 days, and no credit for cancellations less than 14 days before the race. Runners must withdraw themselves in Ultrasignup to receive credit. Credit is valid for one year and applies to any Ultraverse Supplements race.
Eternal Damnation is the first of three races required for the Ultraverse Kansas Slam; the slam includes The Sticks and specified Hell Creek events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
