The Drop - Halifax
The Drop is an outdoor navigation event that drops participants at an undisclosed location. Entrants receive a race number and an emergency bag at registration and must hand over electronic devices and navigational aids. Participants are transported blindfolded or with blackout safety goggles to a drop site and must make their own way back to the event centre. Distances are measured as the crow flies and the actual route may be longer.
Available distances:
- 15 miles
- 10 miles
Participants must not use personal GPS, unauthorised maps, compasses, or outside help. Electronic recording devices may be carried but must remain sealed inside the provided emergency bag; breaking the seal leads to disqualification. Only maps supplied by organisers may be used if any are provided. Shortcuts that bypass the requirement to return under one’s own power are prohibited.
Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional, paid feature for safety and spectator viewing. Trackers are typically accurate within five metres but can be affected by tall buildings and signal black spots. Trackers should be placed with a clear view of the sky and must be returned after the event or a replacement fee of £175 will apply.
Location and logistics are based at Dukes Bar, 16-18 Market St, Russel St, Halifax HX1 1NX. Parking is available in the town centre and there are nearby rail and bus links. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
