The Drop - Halifax (event)

The Drop - Halifax is an off-road navigation event taking place from Dukes Bar, 16-18 Market St, Russel St, Halifax HX1 1NX. Entrants choose between the following distances:

  • 10 miles
  • 15 miles
  • 25 miles (The Drop Ultra)

The event is open to entrants aged 18 and over on the event date. The listed price for the 10-mile entry is £47. The Ultra is described as a 25-mile edition measured as the crow flies, with the actual route expected to be more than 30 miles and an 8.5 hour cut off.

Format, rules and safety

At registration, participants hand over electronic devices and navigational aids and receive a race number and an emergency bag. Participants are transported to an undisclosed drop-off location, then must find their own way back to the event centre. Distances are measured as the crow flies; actual travel distance may be longer.

Rules include no GPS use (recording devices must remain sealed in the emergency bag), no unauthorised maps, no shortcuts, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken. Blindfolds are used but can be replaced with blackout safety goggles or an alternative on request.

Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional, paid feature. Trackers are said to be accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by buildings or signal black spots. All trackers must be returned at event end or a £175 replacement fee applies.

Location and logistics

Parking is available in the town centre. The nearest railway station and the bus station are about a 5 minute walk from the event HQ. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
