Event overview

The Drop - Halifax is a navigational race with multiple distance options held from Dukes Bar, Market Street, Halifax. Distances offered include:

  • 10-mile
  • 15-mile
  • 25-mile (The Drop Ultra, introduced 2026)

Participants are transported to an undisclosed drop-off location and must return to the event centre. Distances are measured as the crow flies, so actual travel on foot may be longer. Registration includes surrendering electronic devices and receiving a race number and an emergency bag.

Format, rules and logistics

Participants are not given maps or navigational aids and are expected to complete the route without external help or compasses. Rules include sealing any personal GPS or recording device inside the emergency bag and not breaking that seal; doing so leads to disqualification. Organisers may provide maps at their discretion.

Live GPS tracking is available as an optional, paid feature for safety and to share progress; trackers are said to be accurate within about 5 metres but can be affected by buildings or poor placement. All trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee of £175 will apply. The Drop Ultra follows the same rules as the standard event and uses a longer 25-mile crow-fly measurement with an 8.5 hour cut off. Parking and public transport are available near the town centre and the event headquarters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
