The Drop - Halifax
The Drop is a navigational challenge based at Dukes Bar in Halifax. At registration participants hand over electronic devices and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Participants board a bus, wear blackout blindfolds or an alternative safety goggle, and are transported to an undisclosed drop off location. From that point each participant must find their own way back to the event centre. Distances are measured as the crow flies and the actual route may be longer.
Distances:
- 6 miles
- 10 miles
- 15 miles
A 25 mile edition called The Drop Ultra is planned for 2026. It uses the same rules and conditions but the actual route is expected to exceed 30 miles.
The event rules prohibit use of personal GPS, unauthorised maps and shortcuts. Devices used to record progress must be sealed in the provided emergency bag; breaking the seal results in disqualification. An optional live GPS tracking service is available for an additional fee; trackers are generally accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by buildings and poor placement. All trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee will apply.
Location: Dukes Bar, 16-18 Market St, Russel St, Halifax HX1 1NX. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
