The Drop - Chester

The Drop - Chester is an orienteering-style running event at Up & Running Chester, 29-31 Bridge St, Chester CH1 1NW. The next listed race date is 11/10/2026. Participants choose between 10 miles or 15 miles, and may enter solo or as part of a team. Distances are quoted as the crow flies; the actual ground distance will be longer.

Registration requires handing in electronic devices, watches, and navigation aids in exchange for a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Participants are transported by bus to a secret drop-off point while wearing a blackout blindfold or blackout goggles if preferred. From that point, participants must return to HQ on foot without maps, GPS, compasses, or outside help. The sealed emergency bag must remain intact during the event; breaking the seal leads to disqualification.

Rules, tracking and logistics

Live GPS tracking is provided as part of safety protocols and can be shared with others via password-protected access. Trackers are typically accurate to within 5 metres; placement in an outside pocket is recommended for best signal. Trackers must be returned after the event or a £175 replacement fee applies. Parking is available in the city centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10-minute walk from HQ and the main bus station is about 5 minutes away.
