The Drop - Chester
The Drop is a navigation challenge centred on uncertainty. Participants are transported blindfolded to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre at Up & Running Chester, 29-31 Bridge St, Chester CH1 1NW. There are no markers, maps, directions, or compasses provided.
Distances offered:
- 15 miles dropped 15 miles as the crow flies from the event centre
- 10 miles dropped 10 miles as the crow flies from the event centre
- 6 miles dropped 6 miles as the crow flies, open to non-locals only
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids, and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry. Deployment is by bus while blindfolded; when blindfolds are removed the participant’s time starts. All movement must be on foot and the emergency bag seal must remain intact.
A GPS tracking system is used for safety and can be shared via a password protected login. Trackers must be returned after the event; lost or unreturned devices incur a replacement fee. Parking is available in the city centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10 minute walk and the main bus station is about 5 minutes from the event centre.
