Event overview
The Drop - Chester is an off-road navigation event held from a central meeting point at Up & Running Chester, 29-31 Bridge St, Chester CH1 1NW. Entrants may choose between missions of 10 miles or 15 miles, and may enter solo or as a team. Entry prices are listed as £53 for 10 miles and £55 for 15 miles. The event is open to entrants aged 18 and over on the event date.
Format and rules
Participants hand in all electronic devices and navigation aids at registration and are issued a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Competitors are transported to a secret drop-off point while blindfolded or wearing blackout goggles. From the drop-off point, participants must make their own way back to headquarters on foot. Distances are stated as measured "as the crow flies"; the actual ground to be covered will be longer.
No GPS, maps, compasses, or outside help are permitted unless organisers issue a map on the day. Breaking the emergency bag seal or using prohibited devices results in disqualification.
Safety and tracking
The event includes live GPS tracking as part of the safety protocol. Trackers are typically accurate to within 5 metres though signal gaps may occur. Trackers must be returned at the end of the event; lost or unreturned trackers incur a £175 replacement fee. Blindfolds can be swapped for blackout goggles on request.
