Navigation Challenge in Chester

The Drop - Chester is a navigation event based at Up & Running Chester. Participants are transported by bus to an undisclosed location while wearing blackout blindfolds or safety goggles. The objective is to navigate back to the event centre on foot without the aid of maps, GPS, compasses, or watches. All electronic devices and navigational aids are handed over at registration in exchange for a race number and a sealed emergency bag.

Participants can choose between three distances, which are measured as the crow flies; the actual distance covered on foot will be longer:

  • 15 miles
  • 10 miles
  • 6 miles

The 6 mile option is reserved exclusively for non-locals to ensure that local geographic knowledge does not influence the challenge. Participants for all distances must be at least 18 years old. Safety is managed through a GPS tracking system provided by the organizers, which allows for live monitoring. Breaking the seal of the emergency bag or using unauthorized transport results in disqualification.

The event centre is located near Bridge Street in Chester. It is situated approximately 5 minutes from the main bus station and 10 minutes from the nearest railway station. Parking is available within the city centre. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
