Event overview

The Drop - Chester is an organised navigation event run by Organic Adventure Ltd at Up & Running Chester, 29-31 Bridge St, Chester CH1 1NW. The next scheduled race date listed is 18/10/2026. Entrants choose between these mission distances:

  • 10 miles
  • 15 miles

Participants may join solo or as part of a team.

Format, equipment and rules

On registration, organisers collect electronic devices, watches, and navigation aids and issue a race number plus a sealed emergency bag that participants must carry. Competitors board a bus while blindfolded or wearing blackout goggles and are taken to a secret drop-off point. From there, the task is to return to HQ on foot. Distances are measured as the crow flies, so the actual distance travelled will typically be longer.

No maps, GPS, compass, route information, or outside help are allowed unless organisers issue something on the day. Breaking the emergency bag seal or using banned equipment leads to disqualification. Blindfolds can be swapped for blackout goggles on request.

Safety and logistics

A live GPS tracking system is used for safety and optional sharing. Trackers are password-protected and login details are sent before the event. Trackers are typically accurate to within 5 metres; placement in an outside pocket is recommended. Trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee of £175 applies.

Parking is available in the city centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10-minute walk from HQ and the main bus station is about 5 minutes away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
