Event Overview
The Drop is a navigation challenge in which participants must find their own way back to the event centre from an unknown drop point. There is no marked route, no directions, and no navigation aids provided. The only objective is to return on foot.
Available Distances
Participants can choose from three distance options:
- 6 miles - This shorter option is strictly for non-locals only.
- 10 miles
- 15 miles
Distances are measured as the crow flies; the actual distance travelled will be longer.
How It Works
At registration, all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids are surrendered. In return, participants receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag.
Participants board a bus and wear blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives during transport to an undisclosed drop location. Upon removal of the blindfolds, the challenge begins.
During the challenge, participants have:
- No map
- No GPS
- No route
- No help
- No compass
All decisions on how to return are the participant's own responsibility.
Rules and Notes
Key rules include a prohibition on GPS devices and unauthorised maps, travel on foot only, and the requirement to keep the emergency bag sealed. Participants carry a GPS tracker for safety, which they must return after the event or incur a replacement fee. Friends and family can follow progress online using login details provided before the event.
The event centre is at Up & Running Chester on Bridge Street. Parking is available in the city centre, with the nearest railway station a 10-minute walk away and the main bus station approximately 5 minutes away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
