The Drop - Cambridge
The Drop is an off-road navigation event based at Up & Running 36 Trinity St Cambridge CB2 1TB. Participants are collected by bus, blindfolded or fitted with blackout safety goggles, and driven to an undisclosed drop-off location. From that point each person or team must find their own way back to the event centre. Distances are measured as the crow flies, so the actual route may be longer.
Distances offered:
- 10 miles
- 15 miles
- 6 miles
At registration participants hand over electronic devices and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Devices may be recorded but must remain sealed in the emergency bag during the event. Breaking the emergency bag seal or using unauthorised maps or GPS leads to disqualification. Shortcuts are not permitted; the course must be completed under human power.
An optional live GPS tracking service is available for an additional fee. Trackers are reported to be accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by buildings and signal black spots. Trackers should be placed with a clear view of the sky and must be returned to staff after the event or a replacement fee will apply.
Parking is available in the town centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10 minute walk and the bus station is about 5 minutes from the event HQ. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
