The Drop - Cambridge
The Drop - Cambridge is a navigation-based event where participants must find their way back to a central hub from an undisclosed location. The experience involves three available distance options, which are measured "as the crow flies," meaning the actual distance covered on foot may vary.
- 6 miles
- 10 miles
- 15 miles
The event begins at the headquarters at 36 Trinity St in Cambridge. During registration, participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return, they receive a race number and an emergency bag. Participants then board a bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or safety goggles and are driven to a secret drop-off point.
The objective is to return to the event centre using only personal determination and sense of direction. No maps, compasses, or GPS assistance are permitted during the journey. While participants can bring their own devices to record their progress, these must remain sealed inside the provided emergency bag for the duration of the event. Breaking the seal on this bag results in disqualification.
The event is held in Cambridge town centre, which is accessible via public transport. The local railway station is a 10-minute walk from the headquarters, and the bus station is 5 minutes away. Optional live GPS tracking is available for friends and family to monitor progress remotely, provided the device is carried in an outside pocket for signal accuracy.
