Event overview
The Drop - Cambridge is an orienteering-style endurance event taking place in Cambridge. The next scheduled race date is 07/02/2026. Entrants choose between these distances:
- 15-mile
- 10-mile Distances are measured as the crow flies; the actual route participants take may be longer. Entries may be solo or in teams.
Format, rules and logistics
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches and navigational aids and receive a race number and an emergency bag. Devices may be recorded but must remain sealed inside the emergency bag during the event; breaking the seal leads to disqualification. Participants board a bus, wear a blackout blindfold or an approved alternative, and are driven to an undisclosed drop-off point. From that point they must return to the event centre without maps, GPS, route guidance, compass or outside help. Only maps provided by organisers may be used, if any are issued. Shortcuts are not permitted.
Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional, paid feature and access is provided by login details sent before the event. Trackers are stated to be accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by buildings and signal black spots; placement in an outside pocket is recommended. All trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee of £175 applies.
Parking is available in the town centre. The nearest railway station is a 10 minute walk and the bus station is 5 minutes from event HQ. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
