The Drop - York
The Drop - York is a navigation challenge where participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre in York. The event centre is at Up & Running, 9 Colliergate, York, YO1 8BP. Distances are measured as the crow flies so actual routes will be longer.
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration of the event.
Deployment uses a blindfolded bus transfer. Participants don blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives, are driven to an undisclosed drop location, and do not know their position or facing direction when they start. When blindfolds are removed the participant’s time begins and they must return on foot without maps, GPS, compasses, or outside help.
Key rules include no GPS unless a device is sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on-foot travel only, and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. A live GPS tracker is available as an optional safety feature; trackers must be returned at the end or a replacement fee applies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
