The Drop - York

The Drop is a navigation challenge where participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre at Up & Running, 9 Colliergate, York, YO1 8BP. There are no markers, no route, and no navigational aids provided once deployed.

At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and any navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration; breaking the seal leads to disqualification.

Deployment is by bus while blindfolded or using approved alternatives. When the blindfolds are removed the clock starts and each participant is solely responsible for choosing their route. Travel must be on foot only; no transport or shortcuts are allowed.

Distances are measured as the crow flies so actual routes are likely to be longer. Entries for the shorter option may be restricted to non locals to preserve uncertainty and fairness; organisers may check local status and reassign entries if required.

Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional safety feature for a fee. Trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee of £175 will apply. Trackers are most accurate with a clear view of the sky. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
