The Drop - York
The Drop is a stripped back navigation challenge based at Up & Running, 9 Colliergate, York. Participants are blindfolded, taken by bus to an undisclosed location, and must find their own way back to the event centre without maps or navigation aids.
Distances offered are measured as the crow flies; actual travel distance will be longer. Options available:
- 6 miles for non-locals only
- 10 miles
- 15 miles
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. Each person receives a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must remain intact. When blindfolds or blackout safety goggles are removed, the participant’s time starts and they must proceed on foot to return to the event centre.
Rules restrict use of GPS and unauthorised maps, require on foot travel only, and disqualify anyone who breaks the emergency bag seal. Organisers may check entries and move local participants from the 6 mile option if they have strong local knowledge.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional safety feature for an additional cost. Trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee will apply. Entry prices vary by distance and entrants must be aged 18 or over on event day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
