The Drop - Glasgow
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge where participants are transported blindfolded to an unknown location and must make their own way back to the event centre on foot. There are no markers, no provided route, and no navigation aids.
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration. Blindfolds can be replaced with blackout safety goggles if required.
Distances and options:
- 6 miles open to non-locals only
- 10 miles core Drop option
- 15 miles longer core Drop option
Distances are measured as the crow flies; actual travel distance will be significantly longer. Rules include no GPS (devices may only record if sealed in the emergency bag), no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken.
An optional live GPS tracking system is available for safety; trackers are accurate to about 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings and poor placement. All trackers must be returned after the event or a £175 replacement fee will apply.
