Event Overview
The Drop - Glasgow is an orienteering and navigation challenge based at Ocho, 8 Speirs Wharf. Participants are transported to an undisclosed location by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or safety goggles. The objective is to navigate back to the event center on foot without the use of maps, GPS, or external assistance.
Participants must hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids at registration. In exchange, they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Breaking the seal of the emergency bag or using unauthorized transport results in disqualification. While personal GPS devices must be sealed, a live GPS tracking system is available as an optional feature, allowing friends and family to monitor progress remotely through a password-protected link.
Challenge Categories
The following distances are available, measured as the crow flies. The actual distance traveled will vary based on the route chosen:
- 15 miles: The original and longest version of the event.
- 10 miles: A shorter version using the same rules and deployment methods.
- 6 miles: Exclusively for non-locals who do not have prior knowledge of the local geography.
