The Drift winter races
The Drift is a winter running event that stages multiple races along the Green River corridor. The event offers three distinct distances that use river corridors and surrounding terrain. The courses combine flat stretches and more rugged sections and take place in winter conditions.
Distances
- 13 miles: out-and-back along the Upper Green River.
- 28 miles: original course following the Green River and the path of the country’s oldest running cattle drive.
- 103 miles: long course with over 9,000 feet of total elevation loss and gain.
The 13 mile race is presented as an entry level distance that runs out and back on the Upper Green River. The 28 mile course begins with a fast, flat section and then continues along historic river corridors tied to a traditional cattle drive route. The 103 mile event requires sustained self sufficiency; the course has no drop bags, no pacers, and no cell service in sections. Checkpoints are provided along the longer route.
Organizers publish race updates and reports and rely on volunteers to stage the event. The race materials reference running, fat bike, and ski activities in the same timeframe, and a multi day schedule appears for the event dates listed.
