Event description
The event takes place at Castle Mountain Resort, Pincher Creek No. 9, Alberta, Canada, and highlights portions of the Great Divide Trail and the Castle and Crowsnest regions of the southern Rockies. The course is a mix of single track, double track, a small amount of road, cross-country, some bushwhacking, and scrambling. It features alpine travel, ridge walks, and remote backcountry terrain. For 2026 the race adds a limited number of relay spots and a new 100k course.
Distances include:
- 200-mile solo
- 100k (noted as about 115 km)
- 200-mile relay
The event is intended for competitors with substantial ultramarathon experience and proficiency in alpine travel, since some sections require route finding despite course flagging. Checkpoints are placed about every 20 to 40 km. Organizers provide a Garmin inReach that competitors must carry for navigation and safety, and satellite trackers are used. The race field is capped at 100 entrants. Main aid stations offer fresh and hot foods and medical support is available. The 200-mile solo division offers cash prizes for the top three female and male finishers of CDN$5,000, CDN$2,500, and CDN$1,750 respectively. The 200-mile and 100k entries include pre and post race meals, with an optional meal add on for relay teams. GPS files and reflective course markers are provided, and event photography is offered.
