Castle Alpine Trail Race
The Castle Alpine Trail Race takes place at Castle Mountain Resort, Alberta, within the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The event features a 28 km course characterized by mountain terrain, significant elevation gain, and a mix of rugged single track and off-trail sections. The route traverses two mountain summits and an alpine valley.
The race is structured into three distinct legs, all of which start and finish at the central staging area of the resort. This layout allows participants to manage transitions without the absolute necessity of a remote support crew, as gear can be stored at the central hub. The directional flow alternates between clockwise and counter-clockwise loops.
Participation options include:
- Solo (Male and Female categories)
- Relay Teams (2 to 3 members; Male, Female, or Co-ed categories)
The event is limited to 200 racers. Support crews are permitted at the transition area, and drop bags can be left at the site for those running without assistance. Staffed checkpoints providing water and snacks are located throughout the stages. The race has a total time limit of 8.5 hours. Various accommodation options, including private rooms and a hostel, are available at the host site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
