Castle Alpine Trail Race
The Castle Alpine Trail Race takes place at Castle Mountain Resort near Pincher Creek No. 9, Alberta. The event is offered as a 28 km solo run and a 28 km relay.
The trail course visits two mountain summits and an alpine valley. It includes wide-open views, rugged single track, off-trail sections and sustained climbing. The relay is divided into three legs: Leg 1 clockwise, Leg 2 counterclockwise and Leg 3 clockwise. Each stage starts and ends at Castle Mountain Resort, with a central staging area for transitions and gear.
The race occurs in September, when conditions can be variable; there is a chance of snow, strong winds at the summits, or warm weather. The area is noted for flora and fauna viewing from spring through fall. Post-race activities include live music, a communal meal and awards.
Accommodation options near the resort include private rooms, a hostel and bed and breakfasts for those making a weekend of the visit. Team registration allows adding teammates after initial registration by having them sign up individually and join the team; teams must start with at least two teammates.
